Product Description
Japanese Black Pine Pinus thunbergii One of the most popular specimens for Bonsai growing, the Japanese Black Pine is a rather distinctive and picturesque tree because of its irregular shape. They are also very popular as landscape specimens, most likely due to their low maintenance and tolerance to extreme conditions. They make an excellent evergreen for coastal regions because if its tolerance of high winds and salt spray. They are also very tolerant of urban conditions. Native to northeastern China, Korea and Japan, they are quite hardy and can easily be grown in zones 5-8. Generally these grow to about 20-30' high in cultivation but can grow to about 100' high in its natural habitat. They are surprisingly easy to grow from seed.
Instructions Information
Prepare the following materials before you proceed...
A container that can hold hot water and all of your seeds...
Your seeds... Warm or hot (not boiling) water (this is the summer part)...
1 Place the collected seeds in your container and pour the hot water over them. At this stage, it doesn't matter whether they sink or float...
2 Wait 24 to 48 hours and dispose of any floating seeds as they are empty and useless. You may replace the water after 24 hours with more warm or hot water and wait another day if desired...
3 Drain the water from the container but make sure to take out the seeds first!...
4 Prepare the following materials before you proceed... A plastic sandwich bag... Paper Towel... Tap Water... You will need access to a refrigerator (this is the winter part)...
5 Fold the paper towel and moisten it with water so it is wet, but not dripping...
6 Place your seeds on the paper towel...
7 insert the paper towel into the plastic sandwich bag...
8 Place the plastic sandwich bag in your refrigerator...
9 Check your seeds once every month to make sure they aren't rotting...
10 Take your seeds out of the refrigerator after three months or 90 days...
11 Sow your seeds inside or out by digging a little hole half an inch deep and covering them with a quarter inch of soil. Make sure your future trees have room to grow until you replant them. (If you replant them)...
12 Watch and wait! your seeds will sprout,...
